Did you race in, or spectate at, scrambles back in the 1950s through to the 1970s? If the answer to that question is yes, then the event Golden Years could be just the thing for you.
The event will be compered by Ian Berry, who specialises in writing about scrambling and motocross during that period and has three publications to his credit; Out Front! The British Motocross Champions 1960-1974, Motocross on Air! The BBC Grandstand
Trophy 1963-1970 (both Panther Publishing), and his most recent offering, Jeff Smith - Trials Master, Motocross Maestro (Motorsport Publications LLC). Ian is presenting an evening of scrambles and motocross talk, in association with the John
Banks Group, and will be talking to a host of former British champions, GP riders and Centre champions from East Anglia, at the John Banks Honda Showroom on Friday 5th October, at 7pm
Guests include Jim Aim, John Banks himself, Bill Brooker, Chris Ginn, Jim Holt, Dennis Howard, Sidge Kenny (the Eastern Region ACU archivist), Andy Lee, Freddie Mayes, Norman Messenger, Dave Nicoll and Adrian Yallop.
Although the main focus is riders from East Anglia, former BSA factory rider Keith Hickman will also be making an appearance, joining his ex-teammates Banks and Nicoll to reunite the Three in Europe, as they were referred to during their years
spent campaigning the 500 GPs in the late 1960s
Tickets for the event are available online and cost £20. This includes light refreshments and the proceeds from the event will go to GeeWizz, a local children’s charity.
